Description

Vitex negundo, commonly known as the five-leaved chaste tree or Indian chaste tree, is a deciduous shrub native to parts of Asia and Africa. This versatile and valuable plant is characterized by its aromatic, palmate leaves composed of five lance-shaped leaflets. During the summer months, it produces spikes of fragrant, tubular, lilac-to-white flowers that attract various pollinators, including butterflies and bees. Following the blooms, it bears small, dark purple to black berries. Germination

Vitex negundo, commonly known as Nirgundi or Five-Leaved Chaste Tree, is a medicinal plant that can be grown from seeds. To germinate Vitex negundo seeds, start by scarifying the seeds, either by lightly scratching the seed coat or soaking them in warm water for 24 hours to help break dormancy. Sow the scarified seeds in a well-draining potting mix, covering them with a thin layer of soil. Maintain a warm temperature of around 70-80°F (21-27°C) and provide indirect sunlight. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically occurs in 2-6 weeks. Once the seedlings have developed several true leaves, they can be transplanted into individual pots or directly into the garden. It produces clusters of aromatic, blue to purple flowers and can be a valuable addition to your garden or herbal collection when properly grown.
